Dry Mouth As One Of The Factors That Causes Gum Infection
Dry mouth is one of the common cause of gum disease, gum infection or Periodontitis. Before doctors used to think that dry mouth or xerostomia is common in the aging process but it isn't. Healthy adults should not be experiencing a problem with saliva. Dry mouth occurs when salivary glands is not functioning well, it increases the risk of gum and tooth problems and gum infectionn. Medication is also one factor that causes dry mouth.
To prevent dry mouth take in a lot of water, cut back foods with sugar, drinks with caffeine or alcohol and tobacco. And to prevent gum disease observe proper dental health hygiene by brushing and flossing and consider using dental health care products that will aid in preventing bacteria build- up that causes infection and gum disease.
